About us

At Darmakaya Yoga Center, we practice psychophysical techniques – asanas, breathing techniques – pranayama, concentration – dharana, meditation – dhyana and yogic relaxation techniques. Practicing these techniques in combination helps deepen physical and mental relaxation, improve the body’s mobility and flexibility, regulate sleep and appetite, restore energetic balance, prevent illness, strengthen the immune system and improve overall health and well-being. It also supports greater mental stability and focus, helping us function better in our everyday lives.

The classes take place in a pleasant and supportive atmosphere, where each practitioner is encouraged to develop a more conscious relationship with their body and mind. They also include brief explanations of certain philosophical aspects of yoga, along with guidance on how to incorporate them into everyday life and enhance its quality. The guidance goes beyond simply following the movements – it offers support throughout the process of self-exploration and of developing a deeper connection with oneself.

Guidelines for exercising at home

  • Find a peaceful place in your home; a space large enough for you to lie down is sufficient. Keep the area clean and airy; if possible, dedicate it solely to yoga.
  • Wear light, comfortable clothing that makes you feel good, preferably made from natural materials. Let these clothes be for yoga only.
  • Practice barefoot or in socks.
  • Use an exercise mat (yoga mat/rug/towel).
  • If needed, provide yourself with a cushion for sitting or lying down.
  • Practice early in the morning or in the early evening.
  • Always practice on an empty stomach, at least two hours after a meal. Do not eat or drink liquids for half an hour after practicing.

Experiences with yoga

After I started practicing yoga, I felt reborn! I practice at home online because I live in Zagreb, and for years I've been living a stressful life because I work with all sorts of people, and I always rush to do everything, but it never works out! I work in a newsstand where I stand on my feet all day and lift heavy objects. Since I started practicing yoga, my life has changed. First, I feel such peace in my soul that I can't believe it, and second, my body started speaking a different language! First, it shaped up nicely, and nothing hurts anymore; when I wake up, I'm rested, pain-free, and with a smile on my face. I recommend everyone start practicing yoga with Ljupka because she explains things so beautifully and calmly with warmth in her voice, and it's a pleasure to listen to and watch her; she motivates you a lot.

— Ada, Beginners Group

I had a bit of a break from yoga due to corona, but now I'm slowly getting back to classes. Otherwise, I like the period that has been introduced as small lessons at the end of the class, I somehow missed that part besides the practice guidance and it motivates me more to read and apply. The period when I stopped going to yoga, I somehow distanced myself a lot. Now I've even returned from Skopje supplied with yoga literature that seemed good to me.

— Alexandra, Advanced Group

I increasingly want to practice and live with yoga 24/7. I think I am developing a very great awareness of all the things that are happening to me, I am becoming aware of how I feel, why, what I should change to make myself feel better, I am working on myself on how to relieve stress (unemployed, two children, little help, little socializing, pandemic, etc.). I follow you disciplinedly in everything and I listen to you. The concept of all classes is excellent. The lectures also mean a lot to me, all the time you spend to broaden our horizons beyond the asanas. I am grateful to have you.

— Tanja, Advanced Group

Trained late last night and I still have good energy, and the neck pain I had all day yesterday has disappeared. Infinitely grateful for everything you give us and selflessly bestow upon us. Thanks to you, we live more consciously because you teach us to be mentally calm and present here and now, to get to know ourselves better and, in turn, those around us.

— Snezana, Advanced Group

I am very satisfied with the classes, I feel much better since I started practicing. I can say that the frequent headaches I used to have have almost disappeared, and I am truly happy about that. Exercise helps me a lot with stress management and relaxation. I really like the explanations you give at the end of the class. I experience yoga as a teaching that can be very useful in everyday life, and I find the yogic principles particularly beneficial.

— Sanja, Advanced Group

My daughter and I regularly practice yoga. After my COVID-19 infection, the flexibility of my joints returned to how it was at the beginning (or rather, lack thereof), but I try to do the exercises in the variation that feels best for me. I feel great progress when it comes to receiving unpleasant information or participating in conversations on negative topics that this whole situation imposes on us. Very often at work, when negative conversations begin, I focus only on the coffee I'm drinking and its taste, and I don't let those conversations affect me. Almost every day when I rest, I instinctively start focusing only on my breathing, and the rest itself becomes more effective.
Thank you for all the classes you send us and all your dedication.

— Katica, Advanced Group

I started yoga out of necessity, due to a herniated disc in my neck, I was constantly in pain and extremely disappointed. But for the first time, I decided to be consistent, persevere, and command my body to work. I exercised literally every day, sometimes I was in great pain, but one morning the pain stopped. After eight months of practicing yoga, I received a beautiful body with defined muscles, flexibility, mobility, and energy as a gift, while losing 15 kilograms and finally becoming more mentally calm.
Thank you Ljupka, I love you, Alex

— Aleksandra, Regular Group

The classes are excellent, including the theoretical part. Since last year, I've been practicing yoga every day except one day a week. With the Tibetan exercises, I started losing weight, and with a healthier diet, I've now lost 12 kilograms. In the beginning, I couldn't do some exercises, like the shoulder stand, but little by little I became more flexible and started doing it. With yoga nidra, I always discover something new about myself. Yoga has become my daily practice.
